NPTEL/MOOCs

LOYOLA ACADEMY distinctiveness includes initiative that are aimed at offering non- conventional job-oriented programs which are based on a curriculum that makes students more skill oriented with better job prospects. Vision of Loyola Academy engrained with Academic Excellence is well reflected in its curriculum embedded with different courses like Core, General Elective, Discipline Specific Elective and Skill Enhanced Courses. With an intention to enhance the self- learning ability of the student, Loyola Academy has introduced learning based on MOOCs. SWAYAM (Study Web of Active Learning for Young Aspirant Minds), an initiative of MHRD offers a unique platform to MOOCs. Among its various National Coordinators, NPTEL (National Platform for Technology Enhanced Leaning) has been offering self-study courses designed by faculty of 7 IITs, IISER and IIIT across engineering, humanities and science streams for more than a decade. From March 2014 NPTEL has been offering online certification for its courses, the highlight being the certification exam through which the student gets an opportunity to earn a certificate from the IITs!

To avail the benefits of NPTEL MOOCs for making students of Loyola Academy as lifelong learner, college has taken an initiative to register itself as NPTEL Local Chapter (LC). Since November 2019, Loyola Academy is a local chapter of NPTEL with I.D 3225 and Dr Sonika Sharma was appointed as SPOC (single point of contact) of NPTEL, who is now succeeded by Ms. P Anjusree Krishnan.


Objectives of LA NPTEL Policy:

  • Making students of LA more skill oriented with better job prospects and a lifelong learner.
  • Preparedness towards requisites as put forward by UGC and AICTE, which allows student to earn as much as 40% of the credits from MOOCs. This is a proactive
    initiative as parent Osmania University has not issued list of courses to be opted for MOOCs.
  • Encouraging Faculty members to upgrade their skills by writing NPTEL MOOCs
