The Department of Mass Communication was set up at Loyola in 2004, and offers under graduate course of B. A. Mass Communication.

The Department of Mass Communication was started in the year of 2004. Ever since then it has trained students to articulate their creativity with a solid background in technical expertise. We aim to provide the widest possible range of skills to turn our students into top media professionals. The specialized course focuses on visual communication, film making, and short-film making. The students are also exposed to advertisement creation and production.

2. Vision & Mission of the Department

Vision: To impart theoretical and practical knowledge on various subjects and groom the students to be adept and capable of executing field work with passion, commitment, discipline and integrity making them ready to make a mark in the media industry.

Mission: Make the students to be global representatives and hold up on objectivity and fairness in their field of work.

Guest lecturers who are practicing in the fields of film making, documentaries, & advertisement production; large & small-scale projects on advertisement creation, making films; discussions on visual communication, photography, & short films; practicals – we do everything in our power to make sure our course is as interactive as possible. A few reasons why students are so in love with the department:
01 Media Fests

Our students take full responsibility to organize and ensure the success of two large media fests – LenZcape, a city-wide, theme-based photography competition-cumexhibition, and INFOCUS, a national-level, theme-based short film and documentary film festival

02 Multi-Media Labs

Mass Communication Labs are fully equipped with state-of-the-art studios, edit-bays, and audio recording facilities.

03 Short-Term Courses

We go to great lengths to have experts talk to our students. Some of the names we drew include photographer Michael Monteiro, Ms.Ratna Rao Shekar of WOW! Magazine, and Ms Swathi Sucharitha - Senior Journalist with The Times of India Our department doesn't do lectures. Instead, we have discussions where everybody is a learner. The students love it, as do the teachers. Drop by for a visit.

    Tomin Paul wins the 1st prize in elocution competition organized by Osmania University.

    1.Chintaka Senadeera, Sarah Deepti, Deborah, Samuel, Jonathan, and Vaishali Chopra win 1st prize for short film “Disaster” at “Twilight 07”, Aurobindo Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi,

    2.Department conducts a seminar titled “India Untouched”

    3.Rituraj and Tomin Paul win the 1st prize at L.N. Birla National Debate Competition

    4.Department organizes a talk on Human Rights with Rev Fr John Soosai Manickam SJ, an advocate of the human rights Movement, as speaker

    1.Promita Sengupta is selected for the Hyderabad Cricket Association under-19 Women's Team and participates in South Zone Inter State Cricket Championship held at Ananthapur

    2.Sarah, Sonali, Jose, Ashok, Nikhil, Mitika, Brieti, and Ambily win Best Documentary and Editing awards for film “Lagaa Stigma Ka Aag” at Coimbatore National Film Festival.

    3.Ms. T. Sneha Reddy attends Global Young Leaders Conference at Boston, USA

    4.Gautham Kumar bags award for Best Film at film festival in Ahmedabad for “Caste and Counterview”, also selected for a film festival at Czechoslovakia

    1.Department starts a summer certificate course on “Television Production” sponsored by the UGC.

    2.Two documentaries produced by Praveen Kumar, HOD, “Telanganam” and “Doll’s House” nominated and screened as official entries in Film Telangana, a digital film fest organized by the Karimnagar Film Society & Discovery Foundation USA

    Department conducts ‘LenZcape 2011’, a photography competition, on World Photography Day

  • 2012

    1.Department produces 24-minute documentary film “Precarious Lives”, based on nomadic tribe Gangiraddilu, sponsored by the UGC under CPE Phase II project.

    2.Ms. V.J. Bharathi, Mr. Vikram Kumar, and Mr. Hudson Taylor conduct a 10-day training program on “Hands-on Training in Audio Video Editing and Multimedia for Interactive CD production” for Home Science College, Hyderabad

    1. Maitreyi Tadepalli is selected for the final round of Mr and Ms Public Speaker, Hyderabad, organized by JCI Club.

    2. Sashidhar Kocharlakota bags the 1st prize for “Kaun Banega Bhashapathi” competition at the inter-collegiate fest organised by Bhavan’s Vivekananda College.

    3. Department conducts ‘LenZcape 2013’, a photography competition, on World Photography Day

    The Department of Mass Communication organized a seminar on “Multimedia” by Ms. Rachel Sauer, lecturer at the Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media on 7 September, 2015

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES : B A
  • PO1 : Critical Thinking : Take informed actions after identifying the assumptions that frame our thinking and actions critically evaluate the validity of arguments and conclusion, and look at our ideas and decisions (intellectual, organizational, and personal) from different perspectives
  • PO2: Effective Communication : Speak, read, write and listen clearly in person and through electronic media in English and in one Indian language, and make meaning of the word by connecting people, ideas, books, media, and technology.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOME OF B.A. MASS COMMUNICATION :
  • PSO1 : Understand the nature and basic concepts of Mass Communication and express them effectively in writing, speaking and audio-visual mediums.
  • PSO2 : Analyse the relationship between media and society, and the various ways individuals respond to socio-political-religious-cultural-ethical economic and sustainable goals.
  • PSO3 : Think critically about debut, films, documentaries, articles, editorials and music while taking into account diverse interpretations from different viewpoints. Being exposed to a wide range of perspectives the students gain the ability to construct a public opinion which is socially responsible, ethical and humane leading to effective citizenship.
  • PSO4 : Apply the theories of Mass Communication to understand the complex problems of society and create content, catering to the needs of pluralistic society.
  • PSO5 : Designing creative content that suits various media platforms.

  • Students are trained to broadcast the College Radio channel.
  • Students are taught on how to handle the digital media pages.
  • Apart from all the practices which they’re gaining through theoretical and practical learning, the best ever practices which have been followed over a decade, which enlightens the students is, there are two mandatory internships they have to do.
  • Students are taken to these industrial visits so that they can get very well exposed to the complete production of a media channel or any media organization.
