Loyola Academy — Examination Rules

Examination Rules

The actionable, enforceable rules governing students at Loyola Academy through every stage of the examination process.

1

Attendance Rules

Standard Minimum
Students must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance across all theory and practical courses to qualify for the Semester-End Examinations (SEE).
Medical Condonation
If absent due to a serious illness or accident, attendance may be relaxed to a minimum of 65%, provided prior permission was obtained and supported by medical documentation.
Consequence of Shortage
Students who fail to meet the attendance threshold are detached from the rolls and must repeat that specific semester in the following academic year.
2

Passing Criteria Rules

Theory Courses
A student must secure a minimum of 40% in SEE (24 out of 60 marks) and achieve a minimum of 40% combined aggregate across CIA + SEE (40 out of 100 marks).
Practical Courses
A student must secure a minimum of 50% in SEE Practical (30 out of 60 marks) and achieve a minimum of 40% combined aggregate across CIA + SEE.
3

Academic Progression & Promotion Rules

3-Year Degree
Passing all first-year subjects (Semesters I & II) is mandatory to be promoted to the third year.
4-Year Degree (e.g., B.Sc. Honours)
Passing first-year subjects is required to enter the third year, and passing all second-year subjects (Semesters III & IV) is required to be promoted to the fourth year.
Backlog Cap
A student cannot carry backlogs exceeding 50% of the total papers in any given academic year to remain eligible for promotion.
4

Retake & Examination Schedule Rules

No Internal Re-Exams
In principle, re-examinations are not conducted for missed CIA assessments except under extraordinary circumstances at the Principal's sole discretion.
Supplementary Cycle
Supplementary examinations for failed subjects are held only during subsequent even semesters.
Instant Examination
Restricted strictly to final-year students who have only one single backlog remaining after final semester results are published.
5

Exam Hall Conduct & Malpractice Rules

Entry Cut-Off
Students will not be permitted to enter the examination hall 15 minutes after the exam commences.
Prohibited Items
Mobile phones, smart devices, written/printed materials, or unauthorized notes inside the exam hall — whether used or unused — constitute serious malpractice and result in instant cancellation of the paper.
Identification Rules
Revealing identity (writing roll numbers outside designated spaces, writing names, or leaving coded messages) inside answer booklets is strictly prohibited.
