Introduction

The Department of Agricultural Science was established in 1983. It achieved autonomous status in 1992 and was later upgraded to a four-year honors programme in 2000. This skill-based undergraduate course is highly relevant in the present context, where agriculture and the proper utilization of rural resources have become critical issues.

Highlights
  • The only four year programme in the college. The only revenue generating department by sale of vegetables, vermicompost, flowers, processed foods etc .
  • Agricultural Experiential Learning Programme (AELP) is an entrepreneurship promoting programme.
  • A part of Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP) for three months in the final year to farmiliarize with socio-economic conditions of farmers.
  • Industrial internship programme for three months in the final year for hands on experience in agro based industries.
MOUs

Signed up an MOU with Sowbhagya Industries Pvt. Ltd. The students were engaged in experimental evaluation of their organic products. Optimization experiments of the products was taken up by the department in the academic year 2022-23.

3. Research activities of the Department
  • Seed money projects was taken by Mrs. K Sudha Sundari during the academic years 2021-2022 & 2022-2023 titled as ASSESSMENT OF VARIABILITY IN DIFFERENT GENOTYPES OF SESAMUM USING D2 STATISTICS and hybridization experiment in Sesamum receptively.
  • Research papers were also published out of the projects.
  • Mr. Y. Satish has initiated to show the impact of different casing materials in milky mushroom along with final year agriculture students in mushroom production unit.
  • Research papers were also published out of the projects.
  • As a part of MOU with Soubhagya industries pvt. ltd. field trials were conducted for the biostumulants produced by the company.
  • Ph.D work on grafting in tomato trials were  conducted by Mrs. D Saritha.

5. Industry Visits
  • VISIT TO CIMAP (Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants)  Date:  26th September 2019. Students of Agricultural science and Rural Development were taken on a field trip to CIMAP, to acquaint the students with the different types of medicinal and aromatic plants, their properties, uses,  the method of extraction of the different products obtained from them and their chemical properties.
  • VISIT TO AGRI-TEX on 07-09-2019. The students of Third year Agricultural Science and Rural Development were taken on an industrial visit to Agri-tex accompanied by the staff members Dr. A.Sai Harini and Mrs. Bhargavi to get acquainted with the latest agricultural implements and practices.
  • VISIT TO JK AGRI.GENETICS Pvt.Ltd,  SECUNDERABAD Date: 28 Jan, 2020 Place: Aliabad. The main purpose of the visit is to gain the knowledge about the practices followed in the Hybrid Seed production of Rice, Bajra& Maize at commercial level. Apart from this the motto of the visit is to make the students understand the concepts practically by showing the practices followed in the field.
