President's Message

Loyola Academy is encouraging its students towards innovations, research by including major project in the curriculum for the past 40 years. Loyola academy is encouraging research and innovations among its faculty by providing seed grant as well as incentives for Awards, Patents and Publications. It has MOUs with several Industrial and educational institutes for collaborative research. College is also focussing on students who want to become entrepreneurs by programs like RAWEP, Earn while learn and setting units under Agricultural Experience Learning Program (AELP). It established incubation centres like Nursery management, Organic farming unit, Vermicompost Unit, Food Processing and Value Addition Unit, Mushroom development unit and Baking Pilot plant. To promote multi disciplinary research Loyola Academy is organising several national and international Seminars/workshops/Conferences for the staff and students to improve their  innovative ideas every year. This year we established Institution’s Innovation Council to organise more activities on Entrepreneurship, innovations and skill development for the development of both faculty and students.

Dr. Zakir Hussain

DR. Zakir Hussain is currently working as an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering and Dean of Research at Loyola Academy

DR. Zakir has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategy and Leadership from O P Jindal Global University (An Institute of Eminence), and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Psychology from Dr. B. R. Ambedker Open University (State Government University), Hyderabad.

DR. Zakir obtained PG Diploma in Cyber Laws and Intellectual Property Rights from The University of Hyderabad (An Institute of Eminence) after Obtaining a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (An “Institute of National Importance” along the Lines of IIT’s Established by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India), Jais, Uttar Pradesh. As mandated by the Ordinance of Ph.D. he has done rigorous Ph.D. coursework at The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. DR. Zakir completed his M.Tech. (Chemical Engineering) from Andhra University, B.Tech. (Chemical Engineering) from JNTU, Kakinada, and Diploma (Chemical Engineering) from Government Polytechnic, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. He has qualified for a rigorous course for a Post Diploma in Fire and Industrial Safety Management from Bharat Sevak Samaj (National Development Agency Established in 1952 by the Planning Commission, Government of India).

DR. Zakir has completed “9” short-term courses from Prestigious Organizations like The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing-Indian Space Research Organization (IIRS-ISRO), Elsevier, American Chemical Society (ACS), Publons by Clarivate Analytics, etc. He has Filed Two Patent Applications with Indian Patent Office.

DR. Zakir has Many Awards for his Credit and his Research Articles are Published in Various High-Impact Factor International & National Journals, Book Chapters, and Monographs. He has presented his research at “25” National & International Conferences, Seminars, and Symposiums.

DR. Zakir has Attended “33” Seminars and Successfully completed “8” Workshops & “11” Faculty Development Programmes Conducted by Various Prestigious institutes of the Government of India. He Organized Many Scientific Events Such As Webinars, Guest Lectures, Industrial Visits, Seminars, Lab-to-School Programs, and Virtual Industrial Tours.

DR. Zakir is Having a Blend of Industrial and Academic Experience. His Research Expertise & Interest includes Catalysis (Heterogeneous and Homogeneous), Biomass Utilization & Conversion, Biofuels & Biodiesel Production, Simulation, Green Separations, Ionic Liquids, Carbon dioxide (CO2) Capture, Natural Gas Sweetening, Dye Removal, Adsorption, Materials Science & Engineering, Deep Eutectic Solvents, Bio-degradation, Intellectual property rights; patent laws; Rural education / Rural development.

DR. Zakir is a Reviewer for Various International Journals Published by World-Renowned Publishers like ACS, Elsevier, Springer, Taylor & Francis, and various Conferences.

DR. Zakir is a Third Party Evaluator (Research) for The Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering, at Seoul National University, South Korea.

DR. Zakir is a Member of Various Scientific Societies like ASTM, ACS, IAAM, IAEng, SPE, IHRO, etc.

About IIC

Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India has established ‘MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation among all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are informative years.

MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs) across selected HEIs. A network of  IICs are established to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion ecosystem in the campuses.  MIC has established Institution’s Innovation Council in more than 2700 Institutions till December 2021.

Major Focus

To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem.

  • Start-up supporting mechanism in HEIs.
  • Prepare institute for ATAL Ranking of institutions on innovation achievements framework.
  • Establish function ecosystem for scouting ideas and pre-incubation of ideas.
  • Develop better cognitive ability among students.

Function of IIC

  • To conduct various Innovation, IPR and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by  MIC in time bound fashion.
  • Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
  • Organize periodic workshops/ seminars/ interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and create a mentor pool for student innovators.
  • Network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organizations.
  • Create an Institution’s Innovation portal to highlight innovative projects carried out by institution’s faculty and students.
  • Organize Hackathons, idea competition, mini-challenges etc. with the involvement of industries.
