Introduction

The department of B.Com. Honours was started in the year 1991 to add to the growing pool of economic leaders with some of our own. Alongside providing the most comprehensive yet specialized commerce course in the market, we bolster our excellent curriculum to meet 21st-century industry needs. The course also helps students to take up professional courses like CA, CS, CMA, CPA, CFA and many other courses of such stature. Also, the course aims at providing both theoretical and practical knowledge with the help of e-commerce labs, AV rooms, and the best faculty for the students. We provide specialized courses in accounting, auditing, taxation and foreign trade with the basics of computer accounting. The programme helps students to strive for excellence by providing both academic and non-academic opportunities which are designed for their personality development.

  • The purpose of Soft Skills training is to showcase its importance, and highlight the areas where students must have a firm grip concerning soft skills. 
  • The department conducts various webinars & seminars to encourage students to utilize their savings by investing and yielding returns. These online seminars & webinars give a head start to students by educating them in these pivotal areas.
  • The department of B.Com Honors organizes workshops on Project Presentation. These workshops intend to provide students with hands-on experience regarding PowerPoint presentations on projects.
  • Industrial trips are encouraged to enhance the skills of students in the field of commerce.
  • The students of the department are recruited by various top companies like Deloitte, JP Morgan, Qualcomm, with lucrative packages.

    • Programme Outcomes :

    PO1: Business and Management Knowledge: Apply in depth knowledge acquired in the disciplines of Commerce, Business and Management, E-Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Marketing to solve complex problems in the business world.

    Programme Specific Outcomes :

    PSO1: Demonstrate theoretical cum practical knowledge gained in the study of Financial Management, Financial & Advanced Accounting. Corporate Accounting and Management Accounting while utilizing principles, techniques and methods such as Standard Costing. Budgetary Control and Marginal Costing etc.

    PSO2: Capability to analyze and demonstrate learning of tax laws and issues relating to individuals and firms, thereby acquiring practical skills to work as an accountant, tax accountant and a Chartered Accountant.

    PSO3: Ability to acquire skills in Auditing & Accounting standards. Business Laws & Banking laws so as to implement them effectively in an organization and pursue advance courses such as CA, CPA, ICWA.

4.Industry Visits
  • Industry visit The final year students of the department went on an industrial visit to ‘Anand Parle Factory’, Saidabad, Hyderabad on 4th September 2018.The students were all accompanied by Mrs.Saras Chandra, HOD, B.Com (Honours). On reaching the factory, the students were first given instructions and safety measures to be followed inside the factory along with a briefing about the company including its history, production plan, sales budgets etc.
  • The first year B.Com. Honours students made a visit to ‘Gandour’ the chocolate manufacturing industry,Telangana on 24th January 2020. They were accompanied by a staff member Mr. Karthikeya. It enabled the students to understand the process of manufacturing and packaging, exports and collaborations with other companies from abroad dealing with small scale productions.The visit also provided a detailed version of how waste management is carried out in the manufacturing unit.
  • The final year B.Com. Honours students made a visit to three industries on 6th March, 2020 accompanied by two faculty members Mrs. Saraschandra and Ms. Manisha A. The first visit was made to Parle G, a biscuit manufacturing industry; second to a Handloom Industry and third to Maquati Dairy Industry.
  • In the month of February, the B. Com. Honours department of Loyola Academy went on an excursion to Pune – Lonavala. This Industrial tour was organized in collaboration with Acumen, a preeminent institution in the field of education and training.
5. Quality Initiatives
  • Business Quiz is organized by the department of B. Com. (Honours) for the students studying first year in all B. Com and BBA streams. The motive of conducting business quiz is to enhance the knowledge of the students in subjects of Finance, Economics, Marketing, Banking, Accountancy, Current Affairs & Logos.
  • On 23rd & 24th of August, 2019 an initiative titled ‘Perspective’was started by the students of B.Com. Honours. This inter college conference provided an opportunity for the students to improve their oratory skills, negotiation and team building. The topic for the event was “LOUD SILENCE”-social evils against the LGBTQI community.
6. Extra Curricular Activities
  • Career Guidance and Training Programme:  The purpose of the programme was to make the students aware of the professional course of Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and its future career prospects.

  • A conference was organised by the department on the 16th and 24th August 2018.

Faculty Achievements
  • Mr. Karthikeya cleared NET and SET in Commerce in the year 2018. He cleared his NET in the subject – Management and qualified CA as well.
Student Achievements
  • Manisha Putta secured second position in Limca Book of Records organized by Bhavanalaya Institute of Music and Dance on 20th February, 2020.
  • Nihal secured first position in AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament organized by Emanuel Tennis Coaching Centre on 7th July, 2019 and secured first position in Open Tennis Tournament organized by Suryodaya Academy on 21st January, 2020
  • Keerthi Lanka is the President of a club that brings together people 18 years and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills.
  • Naquiya Saleh published in an anthology titled ‘Dream Catcher’. The title of her poem was Falling Flower.
