Campus Ministry – 2022-23
Orientation Day – Prayer:
The campus ministry at Loyola Academy takes care of all the Spiritual Activities in collaboration with inter-faith forum of the college. This year, the campus ministry began it’s mission with an inter-religious prayer during the orientation for the first year students. The team invoked the blessings of God upon all the students, staff and other stakeholders of the college especially among the newcomers to the campus.
Feast of St. Ignatius:
The campus ministry took care of the spiritual programmes conducted during the celebrations on the occasion of the feast of St. Ignatius, the founder of the Society of Jesus to which our college management belongs. There was a prayer service conducted for all the Catholics and Christians in the campus on the 29 th of July during which St. Ignatius and his life were introduced to the students. It was indeed an enlightening moment for all the new comers who eagerly listened to the fascinating life-stories of St. Ignatius. Then cakes were distributed for all the students to share our joy of having such a vibrant and valiant leader. On the next day, we had a prayer service for all the members of the staff, prayer for wisdom through the intercession of our Founder. Fr. Arul Jothi, the Vice-principal led us through the prayer service. The faculty members and the non-teaching staff joined us for a grand lunch that noon.
Holy Spirit Mass:
As per the long-standing tradtion of Loyola Academy, the campus ministry had organized a Holy Spirit Mass for all the Catholics on the 16th of September, 2022. Then newly-elected Cardinal Poola Anthony D.D. was the chief celebrant of the Holy Eucharist. He invoked the blessings of the Holy Spirit on the gathering and wished God’s choicest blessings on this academic year. He was felicitated by the management and the faculty after the Mass.
Engage Disability National Conference, 2022:
There was a national conference for people with various disabilities in Henry Martin Institute from 24 th of November to 26 th of November, 2022 under the theme, ‘Treasures of the Church: Recognise, Celebrate, Include.’ We had 3 volunteers, Karuna (111721028022), Vijaya Sri & Joy Goerge from Loyola Academy who assisted the conference with various responsibilities given to them. It was indeed a fruitful experience for the students too as they were deeply touched through this programme.
Spiritual Celebrations:
Spiritual celebrations were initiated in the college to enhance spiritual life of the younger generation so that they are in touch with their deeper selves. This would also ignite the spark of peace and reconciliation which is much needed in the divided society that we encounter today. Without any discrimination, the college wanted every student of Loyola Academy to have this enriching experience. Thus, we decided that we expand the horizon of retreat to the entire college in the name of Spiritual celebrations. It is meant to celebrate faith that we all hold onto and practice irrespective of the religion we belong to.
Loyola Academy Campus Ministry in collaboration with inter-faith forum organised two-day spiritual celebrations for all the students and members of the staff at Loyola Academy. The spiritual retreats during the two-days were organised based on the religion, the students belonged to. We had online retreat for the Hindus as the number is quite big. The talks by various spiritual gurus were well-received and the attendants were very active, interactive and attentive. We had
spiritual talks for the Christian, Catholic & Muslim students in the campus. There were many religious leaders and prayer groups who led our staff and students into Prayer. As the culmination of the spiritual celebrations, we all came together for an inter-religious prayer and an inter-faith programme. The prayer and the programme were live-telecasted for all the staff and students of the College. Fr. Principal and the Vice-Principals gave some insights and inspiration about the need for peace and reconciliation in the society.
Christmas Celebrations:
Christmas celebrations were organised in the campus in collaboration with the Vice-principals and the students’ council. There were carol singing and Christmas drama being enacted for the students and the staff of the college. Christmas cakes were distributed and there were jubilations in the campus. There was a separate celebration for the contingent staff and the security on the 23rd of December. Fun games were conducted and certain cultural programmes and gifts were arranged for them.
Lenten Observances:
During the Lenten season, the campus ministry arranged special Mass on Ash Wednesday for the catholic staff and students in the campus. There was a huge participation by the Catholics in the campus. Following this, there was Holy Mass in the campus, Adoration Chapel on every Friday at 8.30 a.m. This has certainly enriched the pious practices and spiritual life of the Catholics in the college.
Jesus Youth Prayer:
The Jesus Youth members of Hyderabad and Telugu-speaking states were invited to the campus and initiated the Catholic students into group prayer and worship. Accordingly, there were a number of participants in the activities held on every Saturday, henceforth. They come together to pray and worship the Lord, learn Action songs, share their spiritual experiences and the joy of being with the Lord. A group has been formed with a number of Catholics coming together to pray for special intentions for the human society.
