Introduction to the Department

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (HONOURS)

The Department of Commerce (Honours) was set up at Loyola in 1991, and offers B.Com. Honours.

“We are creating tomorrow’s leaders here. It is a wonderful realization to live with.”

- Mr. P. Sai Karthikeya

Head of the Department

The Department of Commerce (Honours) was started in the year 1991 with the intention of adding to the growing pool of economic leaders with some of our own. Along with providing the most comprehensive-yet-specialized commerce course in the market, we bolster our excellent curriculum in order to meet the 21st century industry needs. The course also helps students to take up professional courses like CA, CS, CMA, CPA, CFA and many more. Also, the course aims at providing both theoretical and practical knowledge with the help of E-commerce labs, AV rooms, and the best faculty for your buck. We provide specialized courses in accounting, auditing, taxation and foreign trade with basics of computer accounting. And also, the course helps students to strive for excellence by providing both academic and non-academic opportunities which are designed for personality development.

Vision & Mission of the Department

Vision:

To impart theoretical and practical knowledge on various subjects and groom the students to be adept and capable of executing fieldwork with passion, commitment, discipline and integrity making them ready to make a mark in the media industry.

Mission:

Make the students to be global representatives and hold up on objectivity and fairness in their field of work.

Highlights of the Department

While turning our students into future economists and entrepreneurs is a priority, we find it even more important to help them grow into well-rounded individuals who use their commerce-based powers for the greater good. Here are a few ways we try:

Social Projects

Students are encouraged to take up final-year projects based on social causes such as women entrepreneurs, girl-child education, role of NGOs, etc.

Leadership & Presentation

Guest lectures, seminars, and group discussions are conducted regularly to train our students to be firm in their opinions and yet be able to put them across artfully.

Mid-Course Internships

Students get to work on original projects with some of the best companies. This helps them gain experience and also pads their resumes amply before they even create their first.

Young minds can be made greater by association with great minds. We ensure that our students get to interact regularly with people of great academic and professional stature in the industry.
